Plugin for Photos from Flickr to Your WP Blog

February 24, 2008 by Shanker Bakshi

How about a WordPress Plugin which allows you to search and post pictures within your WordPress WYSIWYG Post writing Editor.

They say a picture speaks a thousand words, well that’s true and I also insist inserting pictures on my posts so that it can reflect the mood of the post.

There are few methods by which you can have pictures for your posts:

Picture taken from your own Camera
Picture you steal from net; you do not have any copyright on these pictures. (That’s a bad Idea)
Buy Image, But that will cost you much if you are not a pro blogger.

There is another method, download pictures from net which are placed under Creative Commons license. You will find such pictures on Flickr.com. You can freely use these pictures as they are posted on Flickr under Creative Commons license,

Now there is a WordPress plugin which can provide you access within your WordPress Post Editor Penal to search such photos on Flickr and post them immediately by the click of a button on your blog. Yes that’s true. This plugin is called Photo Dropper Plugin

With the Photo Dropper plugin, you can now search millions of Flickr photos and add them to your Wordpress posts with just 1 click, all without leaving your Wordpress dashboard. Attribution links are automatically added underneath the images to comply with the Creative Commons license rules. It’s the easiest way to add photos to your blog. Period. And best of all – it’s Free!

Download Plugin HERE
Read about Creative Commons License HERE
Search for Flickr Creative Commons Pictures HERE - You can freely use these pictures, edit them write a text on them, or do if anything else you can do with it.

Beginner Bloggers Earn money with Google AdSense.

February 22, 2008 by Shanker Bakshi
Filed under Make Money Online

“AdSense has become our standard means of generating immediate revenue as we develop site content and richness…”
-Troy Peterson, Web Operations Manager, GPSworld.com

Okay, Alright, now when everyone has his own words on AdSense, here is my saying “If you run a website but never heard about Google AdSense then your neighbor’s names must be Fred and Barney and you must be living in Stone Age”.

AdSense is a Google’s advertisement program, it’s a way to display advertisements by website owner/publishers on their web pages, which are related and associated with the content they write on their sites. It’s the most popular way to monetize your web site. If you are beginner blogger then the first step you take toward making money online should be with this Giant’s baby called AdSense.

[1] Why it is called AdSense?

Well this question makes lot of sense. Ask google, how they have created this wonderful algorithm which enables an advertisement program to actually sense what you are writing about, it can sense what your website content is and display advertisement related to that content only. Google have extensive advertiser base; they have ads for just about all categories of businesses and for all types of content, no matter how specialized the subject matter is. For example if your article is about “pets” then AdSense automatically crawls the content of your pages and delivers ads that are relevant to topic pets, these ads are so well-matched that your readers will actually find them useful.

You can see this AdSense in action on this very post which you are reading right now, Under ads by Google’s cornered horizontal box you can notice content related advertisements, if you select any other post to read, it will automatically change ads according to the contents of that post.

There are two types of AdSense Ads

AdSense for content automatically search for the content of your pages and delivers ads (Both text or image ads).
AdSense for search allows website publishers to provide Google web and site search to their visitors, and you earn money by displaying Google ads on the search results pages

[2] How you can put these ads on your site web pages?
Becoming an AdSense publisher is very easy. For this you need to have the following ;

A launched website with acceptable content and valid URL.
A valid payee name and mailing address to receive your payments

You can register yourself for Google AdSense HERE. After Submitting application google will check your site contents. Publishers in the AdSense program may only place Google ads on sites that adhere to their content guidelines. If your site gets approval by Google for AdSense Program then you can place AdSense code into your site and start generating your Dollars.

[3] When do you get paid?

You get paid whenever someone on your site clicks on one of the AdSense ads. This system of payment is called CPC i.e. Cost Per Click method. You can also be paid on a CPM method i.e. cost per thousand Page Impressions method basis.

Look at this picture below, how happy shoemoney is when he got this AdSense check for US$ 132,994.97, so start writing your own success story today, get register here and start making money online now.

What is No follow and Do follow comment policy

February 20, 2008 by Shanker Bakshi
Filed under Blogging

I had received one e-mail from my friend asking me to explain “You comment I follow” phenomenon. Okay, all right, you notice such widgets on many sites, I believe most of you understand what that mean but for beginner bloggers let me explain this, but before that let me give details of these two things once again.

[A] Your comments on a site provide a link back

When you post a comment on any website you been asked for three things to fill in comment form i.e. your name, your e-mail address and your site URL, now this Site URL which you fill in the comment form works as back link from that site to your site.

[B] PageRank

Your website PageRank measures on how much back link you received from other websites and most importantly what is the PageRank of a website from where you receive a reference or a back link. That mean links you receive from High PageRank Website ultimately increases your PageRank. For more information of PageRank read this post.

Now I can explain no follow and do follow policy

[1] “No Follow” Policy

Bloggers spend big money to receive a link from high PageRank websites. Links from these sites are valuable and increases your PageRank. These sites charges huge money to provide you link in form of your blog review and other resources. These sites can not allow you to simply make a comment on their sites and get a free back link. To stop you from getting easy back links from comments you made on these high PageRank sites they installs a special “no follow” plugin. By activating this plugin comments on these sites do provide a back link to your site but not indexed by google at all. Google do not follow it as a link to your site, which means it will not affect your PageRank in any way. (THAT’S SOO BAD)

[2] “Do follow” Policy

In “Do Follow” or “you comment I follow” policy you receive back link from websites who adopt this policy by simply making a comment on these sites and which is off course indexed and followed by Google for measuring your website PageRank. Link from comments you made on these sites considered as good as these websites has provided you a link back. (THAT’S SOO GOOD)

Why people comments on sites who adopts “No Follow” Policy?

Now simply a question raises in your mind that why people comments on these sites when they are not providing any link which is not followed by google for indexing. Well as I said these are High Page Rank Sites. These sites at least provide you lots of visitor who click your links on comments and land on your site.

Can I earn a free back link from these High PR sites?

To encourage comments on their sites they have adopted this very smart way, you can earn a back link from these high PR sites which will be as good as any other paid link provided that you are in their TOP COMMENTATOR list. So if you want a free back link from John Chow or Shoemoney then comment more and more on their sites and get include your link in their TOP COMMENTATOR list.

Filed under The Internet

According to comScore report December 2007 Google makes up to 58 % of all searches made on the internet which is about 5.6 Billion core searches. Believe me it’s a huge share and there are people who don’t know there are other search engine exist on the internet. Yahoo comes next with 23 % share. Microsoft stood third with only 10% share. So Google is dominant search engine emperor and no one can reach even near to it.

But how you use world’s best search engine, do you only Google few simple words and phrases or you know that google offer lot more then what you expect from it. Here are some tips make use of it and search Google like you never did before, yes exactly like a technology geek.

[1] Precise Phrase:

To search for exact phrase simply do this, enclose the search phrase in Inverted Commas. Say if you are looking for marketing management then enclose this phrase like this;

“Marketing Management”

[2] Specific Document Types:

If you are looking to find result on a specific file type then this modifier is very useful, Google has expanded the number of non-HTML file types searched to 12 file formats. Google now searches Microsoft Office, PostScript, Corel WordPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3, PDF formats etc. For instance you may only search for information on Marketing Management on power point presentation then type in search box;

“Marketing Management” filetype:ppt

[3] Eliminate Words:

Lets take the above example once again, say if you want to search for article about marketing management but want to exclude any result which contains the term planning then put the sign “-” in front of the word you want to exclude

Marketing Management – Planning

[4] Synonyms:

If you want to include some other similar words or synonyms in your search result then simply put the “~” sign in front of your search phrase

“Marketing Management” ~ Strategic

[5] Specific Site Search:

Usually every site put a search button for searching specific phrase in the site but if any site doses not support a built in search feature then you can use google for that purpose. To search for specific phrase in a particular site simply use site: www.website.com modifier. Like to search for phrase Marketing Management in the site www.marketingpower.com you need to type in search box;

Marketing Management site: www.marketingpower.com

[6] This OR That:
Use OR operator to include one or more then one term in your search result, like;

Marketing Management OR Sales Management

[7] Word Definitions:

To see a definition for a word or phrase, simply type the word “define” then a space, and then the word(s) you want defined. If Google has seen a definition for the word or phrase on the Web, it will retrieve that information and display it at the top of your search results, you can also get a list of definitions by including the special operator “define” type your search as;

define: Marketing Management

[8] Calculator:

To use Google’s built-in calculator function, simply enter the calculation you’d like done into the search box and hit the Enter key or click on the Google Search button. The calculator can solve math problems involving basic arithmetic, more complicated math, units of measure and conversions, and physical constants. Type your search as;

44840 +500*45

[9] Currency Conversion

Google has a built-in currency converter, simply enter the conversion you’d like done into the Google search box and hit click the search button. Here are some sample queries:

50 USD in GBP
50 GBP in Philippine Currency

[10] Number Range Search

The Number Range Search operator searches for results containing numbers in a given range. You can use set ranges for everything from dates to weights. Just add two numbers, separated by two periods, with no spaces, into the search box along with your search terms, and specify a unit of measurement or some other indicator of what the number range represents. For example; search for DVD player that costs between $50 and $100 type in search box as:

DVD player $50..$100

[11] Link Search

This one is very helpful for all of you blogger out there, I know if you are a WordPress blogger then you can easily find information about who has linked you from your Dashboard but google search is another method with you can see who have link your blog. Type your search as:

link:www.yourdomainname.com

5 Ways to rejuvenate your blogging mood

February 15, 2008 by Shanker Bakshi
Filed under Blogging

Rejuvenate

Its very throbbing when you write back to back some good article and then see that no one has make any comment on that. It may feel you blue and think about to quit writing, or make you think that blogging is not your thing. Am saying all this from my personal experience. If you are going through this phase then I know it’s very necessary to revitalize yourself to start afresh and back to the business. Am giving here some tips which will help you not to get depressed and keep on rocking blogsphere non stop.

Give yourself some time

There is no rule that you have to write a post everyday, if you feel low and down and not finding any interest topic on which you can speak up then don’t just get upset, its not a big deal, give yourself a little time you may write on the topic of your choice when ever a fresh idea will struck into mind. Give yourself a little time please.

Read Old archives of big bloggers

If you are a new in blogsphere and find yourself stuck up and bored when no one making responses to your great articles then do this thing, read the old archive of your favorites big bloggers. What usually you do is that you read the current article of these big bloggers where you find plenty of comments interactions and responses to their posts, but have you ever gone through their earlier posts. If you go through John Chow’s some initial posts written back between 5th to 10th December 2005 you will see yourself, no one, I repeat “No One” had commented anything, yet he kept writing article everyday without fail and look where he is right now.

An image or a YouTube Video will work

If you are not in mood to write some really big posts containing high-quality contents specially if you are not a full time blogger and hardly find any time to update your blog daily then just make some short posts containing some really funny pictures and videos. Here I explained how you could get lot of links back by putting a weird image or a funny YouTube video in your post. Whenever you find some time from your tough 9 to 5 schedule you can script a post with some genuine valuable contents.

Get busy with site layout update

If you are not in mood of writing posts then get involve your self in site updates, by this I mean inserting some new Plugins, theme changes, installing new widgets, this will at lest keep yourself close to your precious blog in spite of the fact that you are not in the mood of blogging. (But I will discourage you to keep changing your blog theme frequently its unprofessional). Better you make some small changes, which should not affect the complete site layout.

Get experimental with your blog

Blogging is not about writing big posts and get commented on it. There are lots of other things you can do with it. Have you conducted any Competition on your blog recently? This is a very interesting way to revitalize your blogging spirit also you can have lots of reader making comments on your blog (put it as one of the condition to enter the competition). Have you ever try to write guest post for a celebrated blog? (If you will do this you will get the feeling of some achievement) Remember they need superior contents in a post not a big name as a guest poster. One more thing never give up reading others blogs keep commenting on their posts, it’s a fact that if you comment, 90 % of blogger follows back to your site though the comments link and 20% out of those make comment back on your site.

In the end I would like to know if there are other ways you follows to make your self get set and back in action and to get over from that disheartened “not to” blogging mood.

When asked what gift he would like to give his my wife manyata on his wedding day he replied in his typical Munna Bhai style “I will gift my self to her” This is the 48-year-old actor’s third marriage. His first wife died of brain tumor and his marriage to former model Rhea Pillai ended in divorce (now married to tennis player Leander Paes). Dutt has a daughter from his first marriage.

ENOUGH is ENOUGH for Sania Mirza

Asia’s No. 1 tennis player Sania Mirza will not play tennis in India. That’s her final answer to various controversies she is surrounded with all the time Criticism, pulling legs, pointing fingers on other, condemnation and denigration of others is in our blood. We Indian knows hundred ways how to discourage someone with a desire to conquer. This is my personal opinion so don’t mind if you have different thought about it. But believe me we are like this only.

She explain her decision as;

Every time I play in India, there is a problem, considering all that, I thought it would be better not to play at Bangalore, In fact, I feel it would be better if I don’t play in the country for some time. “Playing in India is not as important for me as playing for India”  she clarified.˜I”ve never shirked the responsibility of playing for the country even when I was injured.

Now look at the controversies

Muslim clerics issue fatwa against Sania’s dress code during matches
Uproar over shooting of an ad on the premises of Mecca Masjid, Hyderabad
A lawyer files a case after Sania is caught on camera watching a match putting her feet in front of the tricolor
Sania is accused of supporting pre-marital sex, at a conference. Later, she claims she was misquoted

Okay considering all these , would you think her decision not to play tennis in India is right or wrong.
