WordPress 2.6 is now available for Beta Testing. Its final version will be release by mid-July 2008. Keeping silence about those Dancing Text Widgets WP 2.6 is primarily emphasized on internal performance/productivity/security improvements.

Main Features of WordPress 2.6 as explained here are;

  • Caching of static files with Gears for faster Admin page loads
  • A new and improved image editing dialog that offers lots of control over the images in your posts

  • The ability to disable remote publishing for the security conscious
  • XML-RPC API for changing blog options
  • Better SSL support for the Admin
  • Hierarchy-aware paging in the Manage Pages and Manage Categories admin pages.
  • The ability to relocate your content directory
  • The ability to move wp-config.php out of your web root
  • Drag-and-drop sortable galleries
  • Customizable default avatars
  • Bulk delete, activate, and deactivate for plugins
  • Check box range selection with shift-click
  • TinyMCE 3.1.0.1 with lots of bug fixes
  • jQuery 1.2.6 with some nice performance improvements
  • jQuery UI 1.5
  • Lots of bug fixes and performance improvements

    What? Wordpress 2.6? I’ve just downloaded 2.5.1 and installed in my local WP learning the new interface, and here comes another one again! These WP geeks are not gonna stop, huh. But I like the idea of moving the wp-config out from the root. It’ll be sure secure that no one can get into your WP account. :-)

    i’m new in wordpress .. i’m using 2.6.1…one basic question.. my some articles are like 100 lines long.. i want only 20 to 25 lines to be displayed on that page .. how can i do it … some one please help..

    Click on HTML window of your WordPress Editor
    Click on button MORE where you want to finish your article for front page. People will only see the complete article if they click on more link
