How to Optimize Your Blog for Readers?

The other day one of my friend who was installing a new WordPress blog asked me whether he should activate the setting “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” as given under WordPress Discussion setting options. I immediately advise him not to do so; one must facilitate and give ease to his/her blog readers to convey opinion through comments. I don’t think compulsion of registration before allowing them to comment on your blog serve any purpose, rather I advise him to install couple of plugin which gives ease to blog readers while commenting on posts and also optimize blogs for blog readers.

[1] The Threaded Comments Plugin

This plugin design a threaded style commenting structure for the comments that are made on your blog posts. In other words, this plugin allows you to not only reply to a post on your blog, but also to reply to a reply to a post… and on and on, creating what’s called a threaded, or nested comment collection.

[2] The CommentLuv Plugin

This Plugin help give something back to every single commentator as well as entice them to come back and visit more often by automatically adding a titled link to their last blog post at the end of their comment. It’s done fantastically well with tens of thousands of comments every day receiving a little love.

Download WordPress CommentLuv Plugin

You can see both of these plugin in action on this blog. The best thing is that if you are in top commentators list you can get a DoFollow link to your blog and get some additional traffic.

Do you know some more ways to please your blog commentator? Please discuss in comments below.

yeah I agree with that, just let the readers and guests comment without having them log-in or register. That’s too hassle for them specially when they are just passers-by, right?

Sure, I wouldn’t jump into registration just to comment. It’s unnecessary and time-consuming for readers. You have given him a valuable advice. Those plugins are a must in a WP blog, too.

Well if you are using WordPress 2.7 above, you wouldn’t need a threaded comment plug-in anymore, Shanker. You just have to modify your comment file + css (or download a new theme) to support threaded comments :)

Yes fortunately, 2.7 + has threaded comments. That’s why the author has added few more stuff to threaded comment plugin.

The Comment Luv plugin is becoming increasingly popular. I see it on loads of blogs that I visit and people are definitely more inclined to post comment if there is some link-love included in the deal.

What changes has the threaded comments plugin developer effected to outcompete WordPress 2.7’s built in functionality?
